Producing a sound correctly in single words is only part of the goal; the real target is carryover into connected, conversational speech. These photo cards move articulation into short stories and conversation for students in grades 1 and up.

Move target sounds into connected speech through story-based articulation practice.

Each of the 59 photo cards pairs a vivid photograph with a short story loaded with the target sound, plus five comprehension questions that draw the sound into conversation. Five cards cover each target, spanning /f/, /th/, /ch/, /sh/, /l/, /s/, /r/, l, s, and r clusters, and r-controlled vowels.

Sounds targeted:

  • /f/, /th/, /ch/, /sh/, /l/, /s/, and /r/
  • L, S, and R clusters
  • R-controlled vowels (or, er, ar, air, ire, ear)
  • Carryover into connected and conversational speech

Who are these photo cards helpful for?

These articulation photo cards are for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) working on articulation carryover. The age-neutral photography suits students from early elementary through middle school who are stabilizing sounds in connected speech, and the cards work in individual therapy and small group sessions.

Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) love these photo cards:

Story-based practice bridges the gap between correct single words and correct conversation, which is where carryover so often breaks down. The five comprehension questions per card pull the target sound into spontaneous speech, and the age-neutral photographs keep the material appropriate for older students.

Articulation Carryover Photo Cards includes:

  • 59 photo cards with short stories and comprehension questions
  • Five cards per target sound
  • Coverage of singleton sounds, clusters, and r-controlled vowels
