Many students need structured practice identifying similarities and differences between objects and concepts to strengthen categorisation and reasoning skills. These photo cards provide motivating, game-based practice in comparing and contrasting.
Build reasoning and categorisation skills through structured, photo-based practice identifying similarities and differences between objects.
The Compare & Contrast Double Dice Add-On Deck helps students develop the ability to identify what makes things alike and different, building the categorical reasoning skills that support academic success. Each card features a photograph and four compare and contrast prompts that encourage students to think about relationships and characteristics. With 216 questions across 54 cards, this deck provides abundant practice while keeping students engaged through the unpredictable double dice format, and it naturally encourages students to organise their thinking and express their observations in complete statements.
How it works:
- Place nine cards face down on the table.
- The student rolls the double dice, which lands on a specific shape.
- The student flips the card that matches the shape on the dice.
- The student reads, or listens as the instructor reads, the sentence that corresponds to the number on the inner die.
- The student identifies and responds with the similarities or differences between the objects featured on the card.
Who are these photo cards helpful for?
The Compare & Contrast Double Dice Add-On Deck is ideal for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), special educators, and classroom teachers working with students of all ages. Particularly valuable for kindergarten and above as students develop and refine their categorisation and reasoning abilities throughout their academic years. These photo cards support individual therapy, small group intervention, classroom-based language programming, and home practice with families of varying ages and abilities.
