A curriculum to help secondary students with developmental disabilities initiate and extend conversations at school, home, and in the community.

Conversation Skills Curriculum contains two books to help students initiate socially on the job and in the community in various social environments. Both books include roll play scenarios that help students prepare for social situations they may encounter.

Conversation Skills Curriculum also include self-managed worksheets as well as resources to track and graph student progress. This allows Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to easily track student's individual education plan (IEP) progress.

2 Conversation Skills Books

The Conversation Skills Curriculum contains two books:

  1. Conversation Skills: On the Job and in the Community covers essential communication skills for successful job and social experiences
  2. Conversation Skills II: Extending Conversations teaches how to remember names, develop friendships, and expand conversations

Conversation Skills: On the Job and in the Community

Non-disabled workers usually lose their jobs because of character issues, but workers with developmental disabilities often lose jobs and experience other social problems because of poor conversation skills and subsequent isolation. Conversation Skills, by speech and language therapist Dr. Marilyn Banks, covers basic and essential communication skills and helps young people enjoy successful job experiences and more fulfilling and independent social lives.

50 Lessons With Reproducible Materials

With 50-plus self-managed lessons, Conversation Skills is self-paced and takes only 12 weeks of bi-weekly, 10 minute training sessions during which students acquire a ready social repertoire. All materials in the book are reproducible.

The Conversational Skills book is a covered spiral-bound book and includes downloadable PDF containing all the reproducibles contained in the book.

Conversation Skills II: Extending Conversations

The logical next step, Conversation Skills II teaches students how to remember names, develop friendships at work and in the community, and extend conversations beyond a one answer response. A new feature of this second book, also by speech and language therapist Dr. Marilyn Banks, is the ability to graph the progress of students in a form understandable to parents and teachers. The graphing of work related conversation will give you invaluable documentation of student IEP progress.

The Conversational Skills II book is a covered spiral-bound book and includes downloadable PDF containing all the reproducibles contained in the book.
