For highly unintelligible children, the Cycles Approach targets whole phonological patterns rather than one sound at a time, and it runs on a high volume of production trials. These photo cards deliver that practice for students in prekindergarten and up.
Deliver high-intensity Cycles practice for the phonological patterns that reduce intelligibility.
Each of the 50 double-sided cards presents three photographs with four repetitions per side, for about 24 productions per card and roughly 100 trials in a session. The set targets the phonological patterns addressed in the Cycles Approach, with quick-reference cards and an implementation guide to support delivery.
Phonological patterns targeted:
- Syllable reduction and final or initial consonant deletion
- Cluster reduction, including s-clusters
- Fronting and backing
- Gliding
- Secondary patterns: deaffrication and stopping
Who are these photo cards helpful for?
These photo cards are for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) using the Cycles Approach with highly unintelligible children. They suit students from prekindergarten through the early grades who are working on phonological patterns, and they work in individual therapy and small group sessions.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) love these photo cards:
The Cycles Approach depends on a high number of production trials per pattern, and the three-photo, repetition-per-side layout is built to deliver them efficiently. The included quick-reference cards and implementation guide make the approach easier to run session to session.
Cycles Approach Photo Cards includes:
- 50 double-sided phonological pattern cards
- About 24 productions per card, roughly 100 trials per session
- Quick-reference cards and an implementation guide
