Following spoken directions is one of the most functional classroom skills, and it gets harder as directions add steps, conditions, and time words. These photo cards give students structured practice from simple to complex directions.

Build direction-following and listening skills through photo-based practice that scales from basic to complex directions.

The Following Directions Double Dice Add-On Deck gives students practice with four types of directions: basic, quantitative, conditional, and temporal. Each 3 x 5 inch card features a photograph and direction prompts that grow in complexity, so you can move a student from single-step directions to conditional and temporal forms that mirror real classroom language.

Direction types targeted:

  • Basic directions with one or more steps for following simple, straightforward commands.
  • Quantitative directions involving numbers and amounts to interpret words like either, all, except, one, or two.
  • Conditional directions to learn how to respond to if...then statements.
  • Temporal directions using before, after, and other time words to understand how to follow events in order.

How to play:

  1. Place nine cards face down on the table.
  2. The student rolls the double dice.
  3. The outer die reveals a shape, so flip over the card with the matching shape.
  4. The inner die reveals a number, so read the corresponding prompt.
  5. The student responds, then play moves to the next student.

Who are these photo cards helpful for?

The Following Directions Double Dice Add-On Deck is ideal for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and classroom teachers. Particularly valuable across kindergarten through the middle school years, since conditional and temporal directions stay a therapy target well into upper grades. These photo cards support individual therapy, small group intervention, classroom-based language programming, and home practice with families.

Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) love this deck:

These photo cards separate directions into basic, quantitative, conditional, and temporal types, so you can pinpoint exactly where a student breaks down rather than guessing. That structure lets you scale difficulty within one deck as a student progresses toward the complex directions used in class. The double dice (sold separately) keep students engaged across repeated practice.

Following Directions Double Dice Add-On Deck includes:

  • 54 large-format playing cards (3 x 5 inches) with photos and direction prompts across four types
  • Direction and game variation cards
  • Durable storage tin for easy organization

Please note: This is an add-on deck. The double dice is not included, but can be purchased separately here.
