Inferencing with Nouns Cards is a photo and sentence card set targeting visual inferencing and receptive noun identification through a structured three-choice format, designed for use by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers for all ages and grades.
Fifty-six photo and sentence cards each presenting an incomplete sentence and a real photograph with three noun answer choices give Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) a clear, scaffolded format for building inferencing, noun vocabulary, and critical thinking through visual and contextual clue use.
Inferencing with Nouns Cards presents 56 sentence and photo cards (3" x 5"). On each card, students read or listen to an incomplete sentence, study the accompanying photograph, and use contextual and visual clues to choose the correct noun from three options to complete the sentence. An answer key is included for self-checking, and extension activities and game ideas are provided.Â
Who are these inferencing cards helpful for?
Inferencing with Nouns Cards is designed to target visual inferencing, contextual reasoning, noun vocabulary, and receptive language through a three-choice sentence completion task for all ages and grades. Ideal for use by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers in individual therapy sessions or small group reasoning and vocabulary instruction.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers love these cards:
The three-choice format reduces the open-ended production demand of the task, making inferencing accessible to students who are not yet able to generate a free response, while still requiring genuine reasoning from both visual and sentence context clues. The included answer key allows for independent or semi-independent student use, supporting practice outside of direct therapy time. By Sharon G. Webber, M.S.
