Younger students often assume everyone sees a situation the way they do. These photo cards use short social stories to help them recognise other viewpoints, read emotions, and accept that one situation can be understood in more than one way.

Build perspective-taking and flexible thinking through photo-based social stories with pragmatic follow-up questions.

The Perspective Taking Elementary Double Dice Add-On Deck helps young students understand events, emotions, and reactions from more than one point of view, while also supporting story-structure comprehension. Each 3 x 5 inch card features a photograph and a short social story with realistic, age-appropriate situations. With 54 scenarios and 216 follow-up questions, students practise identifying emotions, predicting reactions, and recognizing multiple interpretations.

Skill targets:

  • Perspective taking: how others may think or feel differently
  • Emotion recognition in self and others
  • Pragmatic reactions and socially appropriate responses
  • Story structure comprehension and flexible thinking

How to play:

  1. Place nine cards face down on the table.
  2. The student rolls the double dice.
  3. The outer die reveals a shape, so flip over the card with the matching shape.
  4. The inner die reveals a number, so read the corresponding prompt.
  5. The student responds, then play moves to the next student.

Who are these photo cards helpful for?

The Perspective Taking Elementary Double Dice Add-On Deck is ideal for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and classroom teachers, and it fits pragmatic language therapy and social skills groups. Particularly valuable for grades 1 through 5 as students develop social reasoning. These photo cards support individual therapy, small group intervention, classroom-based social skills programming, and home practice with families.

Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) love this deck:

These photo cards pair a relatable story with a photograph, so students have concrete support while they reason about feelings and viewpoints. The four questions per card move from recognizing emotions to role-playing responses, letting you meet each student where they are. The double dice (sold separately) keep students engaged across the 216 questions.

Perspective Taking Elementary Double Dice Add-On Deck includes:

  • 54 large-format playing cards (3 x 5 inches) with photos, short social stories, and four pragmatic follow-up questions per card (216 total)
  • Answer cards, direction cards, and game variation cards
  • Durable storage tin for easy organization

Please note: This is an add-on deck. The double dice is not included, but can be purchased separately here.
