Who is the Pirate Talk® Board Game game helpful for?
This language game targets communication skill development in kindergarten to grade 5 students. Pirate Talk is an educational resource for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, teachers, and parents. Its versatility makes this game great for various learning environments, including small or large groups in the classroom, in one-on-one speech therapy sessions, or at home.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists, clinicians, teachers, and parents love this communication game:
- This game is so much fun for students of all ages! The sentences, questions, and directions are amazing for students who are struggling with receptive language skills and for those who have made gains with their receptive language skills and are learning to answer questions or use full sentences while talking. The islands are spaced apart perfectly so students who struggle with playing games/losing can still feel like they are winning each turn.
- This game/activity is effective for both my artic and language kiddos. It is a fun activity and practical for my students who are working on carrying over their corrected speech sounds into structured/written sentences.
- The students at this school are aged 6-21 with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. The timer can be silent or make noise, which is a nice option. The game is colourful but simple and can be modified for various levels! It is a great game!
- Students are ultimately building on valuable language and expressive skills such as the ability to categorize, describe a situation, use inference and/or relate to the social situation described in the picture/sentence. Making learning fun, they move around the brightly colored, engaging game board, spin the electronic spinner and collect gold coins. The student’s enjoy it. They are excited about who gets the most gold coins.
