Pirates and Pals Preposition Fun! is a pirate-themed photo card pair set targeting seven common spatial prepositions, designed for use by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers with students in grades prekindergarten through grade 3 and children ages 4 to 9.
Twenty-eight photo card pairs showing girl and boy pirates and their animal pals demonstrating the same preposition give Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers a motivating, character-driven format for building preposition comprehension and production through card-matching games.
Pirates and Pals Preposition Fun! presents 58 cards (3" x 5") in total: 28 matched photo card pairs, each pair demonstrating one of seven spatial prepositions (in, on, under, in front of, behind, between, and beside) with girl and boy pirates and their animal companions, plus 2 wild cards (a Map card and a Treasure card) for use in a variety of game formats. Four card pairs are provided for each preposition to ensure ample repetition across multiple games and sessions. Content cards include game ideas in English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese. A free progress tracking datasheet is available for download from Super Duper Publications. By Sharon G. Who are these preposition photo cards helpful for?
Pirates and Pals Preposition Fun! is designed to target comprehension and production of seven spatial prepositions (in, on, under, in front of, behind, between, and beside) in students in grades pre-kindergarten through grade 3 and children ages 4 to 9. Ideal for use by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers in individual therapy sessions or small group language instruction.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers love these preposition cards:
Having four card pairs per preposition provides enough repetition for game play without the practice feeling like a drill, and the matched-pair format allows clinicians to target contrast between prepositions (for example, in versus on) by separating and mixing pairs from two decks within the same activity. The pirate and animal character theme adds a consistent, engaging storyline to the activity that young students find genuinely motivating.
