Social and emotional skills are hard to teach from a worksheet and easy to build through play. Scoop & Stack turns social-emotional learning into a cooperative ice cream stacking game for students in grades 1 through 5.
Build social-emotional and decision-making skills through a cooperative ice cream stacking game.
In Scoop & Stack, students spin, respond to a social-emotional scenario, and scoop and stack an ice cream scoop onto the cone, working through challenges together. Built around the five competency areas from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), the game brings social and decision-making skills to life. It includes 50 cards, 12 ice cream scoops, a scooper, spinner, cone, and base.
The five competencies targeted:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Relationship skills
- Responsible decision-making
How to play:
- Set up the cone and base, and place the cards and scoops within reach.
- A player spins the spinner.
- The player takes a card and responds to the social-emotional scenario.
- After responding, the player uses the scooper to add an ice cream scoop to the cone.
- Play continues as the group builds the ice cream tower together.
Who is this social-emotional learning game helpful for?
Scoop & Stack is ideal for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and classroom teachers, and it also suits school counsellors and social workers. It fits pragmatic language therapy, social skills groups, and social-emotional learning programs. It suits students in grades 1 through 5 who are building social awareness, self-regulation, and decision-making, and it works in individual therapy, small group sessions, and classroom activities.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and teachers love this game:
The five CASEL competencies give you a research-informed frame for targeting self-awareness, relationships, and decision-making from one game, and the cooperative stacking keeps students engaged rather than anxious about performing. Developed by Rachele Ellsworth, M.S., CCC-SLP.
