Some students miss the unspoken signals that make social situations make sense, such as a facial expression or the context around an interaction. These photo cards make those signals explicit and give students practice reasoning about them.
Build social inferencing and pragmatic language through photo-based practice reading facial expressions and social context.
The Social Inferences Double Dice Add-On Deck helps students interpret social cues, facial expressions, and context clues using real-life photographs. Each card presents a photograph followed by four questions that prompt students to infer what is happening, how someone feels, and what social expectations apply. With 54 cards and 216 questions, the deck makes abstract social concepts concrete for students who benefit from direct explanation and visual examples.
Skill targets:
- Interpreting facial expressions and body language
- Making inferences based on social context
- Describing the clues that support a conclusion
- Understanding expected behaviour in everyday situations
How to play:
- Place nine cards face down on the table.
- The student rolls the double dice.
- The outer die reveals a shape, so flip over the card with the matching shape.
- The inner die reveals a number, so read the corresponding prompt.
- The student responds, then play moves to the next student.
Who are these photo cards helpful for?
The Social Inferences Double Dice Add-On Deck is ideal for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and classroom teachers, and it fits pragmatic language therapy, autism support, and social skills groups. Particularly valuable for kindergarten through grade 6 as students develop social reasoning. These photo cards support individual therapy, small group intervention, classroom-based social skills programming, and home practice with families.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) love this deck:
These photo cards make the invisible visible, giving students a concrete image and guided questions to reason about social situations they might otherwise misread. The four questions per card let you target expression reading, context inference, and expected behaviour at each student’s level. The double dice (sold separately) keep students engaged across the 216 questions.
Social Inferences Double Dice Add-On Deck includes:
- 54 large-format playing cards (3 x 5 inches), each with one photo and four inferential questions
- Answer key, direction card, and game variation cards
- Sturdy storage tin for easy organization
Please note: This is an add-on deck. The double dice is not included, but can be purchased separately here.
