Webber Pragmatics Playing Cards is a set of four 52-card playing card decks targeting social language and pragmatics skills, designed for use by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), teachers, and parents with students in grades 3 through grade 12 and children and youth ages 8 to 18.
Four 52-card decks covering four pragmatic skill areas give Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers a self-checking, game-based tool for teaching social language rules in a format students already recognise and enjoy.
Webber Pragmatics Playing Cards uses a standard playing card format (suits, ranks, Ace through King) so students can play familiar games like Crazy Eights, Hearts, and Old Maid while practising social language skills. Each card presents a social situation question, and students use the included Secret Decoder to self-check their answers. Follow-up questions on each card invite open-ended discussion about the situation. Four 52-card decks target: Basic Skills, Classroom Skills, Peer Interaction Skills, and Adult Interaction Skills.
Who is this pragmatics card set helpful for?
Webber Pragmatics Playing Cards is designed to target social language rules including making introductions, using appropriate body language, managing anger, staying on topic, showing respect, and navigating challenging social situations in students in grades 3 through grade 12 and children and youth ages 8 to 18. Ideal for use by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), teachers, and parents supporting social communication goals at home in individual sessions, small groups, or classroom settings.
Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and teachers love these playing cards:
Using a familiar playing card format reduces the novelty barrier that structured therapy activities sometimes create with older students, and the game-play mechanic keeps engagement high across sessions. The four skill-specific decks allow clinicians to target the most relevant pragmatic area for each student without switching materials, and the self-checking Secret Decoder supports independent answer verification and promotes self-monitoring. The open-ended follow-up questions on each card extend brief responses into fuller discussions of social reasoning.
