Listening to factual information and holding on to the details long enough to answer questions is demanding for many students. How’s Your Comprehension builds that listening comprehension inside the Donut Dilemma game.

Build listening comprehension and recall through high-interest factual passages in a cooperative game.

This companion set adds 50 comprehension cards to the Donut Dilemma game. Students listen to high-interest factual passages, then answer questions about what they heard, stacking a donut with each turn as the tower grows.

Skill targets:

  • Listening to factual passages
  • Recalling key details
  • Answering comprehension questions
  • Building factual understanding

How to play:

  1. Pair the cards with the Donut Dilemma game.
  2. A player rolls the die.
  3. The die shows a donut type, so the player takes a matching card.
  4. The player answers the question on the card.
  5. After answering, the player adds a donut to the tower on the wobbly saucer.
  6. Play continues cooperatively until the tower is built without toppling.

Who are these companion cards helpful for?

These companion cards are ideal for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and classroom teachers. They suit students in grades 2 through 6 who are developing listening comprehension and recall, and they work in individual therapy, small group sessions, and classroom activities.

Why Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), special educators, and teachers love these companion cards:

High-interest factual passages give students something engaging to listen to, and the comprehension questions check recall and understanding in one activity. The donut-stacking game sustains attention across the deck, turning listening practice into a game students want to keep playing.
