An interactive and structured therapeutic tool designed to help children with apraxia or developmental delays connect speech-motor coordination with expressive language skills.

The Kaufman What’s in Your Doghouse? language development game involves children actively exploring doghouses to uncover tokens corresponding to their game board.

While playing the game with their students, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) can address motor planning for various language elements, such as common nouns, pivot phrases, question formation, social language skills, and the introduction of syntax and morphology, including pronouns, articles, auxiliary verbs, and more. This versatile speech therapy game requires minimal preparation time and accommodates 1 to 6 players, making it particularly suitable for group therapy sessions involving children with diverse functioning levels.

How does the Kaufman What’s In Your Doghouse? work?

While playing, children take turns opening the Mutt Family doghouses in search of tokens that match their game board. The tokens feature simple nouns from Kaufman Kit 1 that Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) can use to guide the therapy session. The first student to get all 7 matches wins!

Therapy Targets included in this game:

  • Practice simple motor planning for nouns found in Kaufman Kit 1.
  • Open___. Take out___. I have a___.
  • Question formulation. Did you get a___? Do you need a___?
  • Social language. My turn. Your turn. What did you get?
  • Visual matching and early literacy skills.
  • Syntax and morphology: pronouns, auxiliary verbs, articles, and more.
